As of now staff text can only be edited when it is being double clicked and the editing tools window opens.
Wouldn’t it be easier to just select the text and then turn to the editing features as part of the panel (i.e. the bottom panel) to edit and see the changes in real time without having to double click?

The problem you seem to ignore is that it is perfectly possible to change the font, the size and almost every setting for each letter ! That would not be possible with your suggested solution…
…and you don’t need to double-click. You can select from the keyboard, and you can hit Enter to start editing. No need to reach for the mouse (unless you need to change the formatting).
