When the notes at the beginning of a bar with a rehearsal number are high, the rehearsal number currently flies away into the rafters. I’d prefer that the rehearsal number be taken into spacing algorithm, and have the notes pushed to the right to accommodate it. This would prevent much mucking around with manual staff spacing.
When an instrument change occurs, and the new instrument begins at a bar with a rehearsal number, the instrument change text also messes up the rehearsal number positioning.
Yep, I also spend a lot of time adjusting rehearsal marks and tempo markings at rehearsal marks. I requested several years ago, a feature that would group rehearsal marks and tempo markings together so that they always stuck together in the desired relative position to each other, and consequently a lot of this editing would not be necessary. Daniel responded at the time and said that rehearsal marks and tempo markings are two different types of “item” and can’t be grouped. This is of course different from a spacing algorithm solution, and I would certainly welcome anything that helps with this issue because I find that in my orchestral parts, the thing I edit most is exactly what you show in your first example.
I fully agree with both of you but I can share a small trick with you in the meantime.
I have found that the quickest solution many times is to use note spacing. I select the barline and push it a bit. Usually that makes the RM jump down as soon as there is space enough. If you aren’t already doing this you could try and see if it saves you sometime.
