What I would like in this case is for the second bracket to be smart enough to stop before the rehearsal mark:
Right now, I think I have two workarounds:
Manually shorten the 2nd ending bracket, and then move both brackets down.
In Engraving Options, change the setting for “Right-hand end of final segment” to “Open, short”, and then extend the bracket towards the rehearsal mark. (Vertical position is fine.)
Edit: Hmm, I think my workarounds don’t actually work, because the end X offset of an open bracket is a global property, and it can’t be set to an absolute value that works well for all parts (because of different musical content and hence bar width).
I believe the End of line property can only be set globally, but the X/Y offsets can be applied locally. I’m able to use your workaround 1 (manually shortening the second endings and moving them down) and use a different End X offset in all part layouts. I’d also welcome a change in this because this is a lot more cumbersome than it should be.
Thanks, @Zalde – you’re right. I fell prey to the “gotcha” that once you set a local property (accidentally) in global scope, that property then appears to be a global property and can no longer be set locally. (Which I also mentioned here.)
Which leads me to another feature request: It would be nice if the UI, probably the bottom toolbar, had a toggle for the “set local properties option” (maybe like the concert/transposed pitch toggle), so that this info is visible and changeable even when the Properties panel is closed. The issue is that if I switch to Engrave mode and adjust something visually with the graphic editing tool selected, there is no indication of whether I’m setting things locally or globally. This is what happened to me above – I shortened the 2nd ending line with my mouse, then noticed that it affected all layouts, then checked the Properties panel and saw that the property was global (because I had accidentally changed it globally, not because it’s inherently global).
So my workarounds for this collision issue do work, but it would be nice if they weren’t needed.
Hi @asherber, I don’t know if you already tried this, or if it would help in your situation (differences between score and parts…, and not nicely looking end of line when no rehearsal marks, etc…), but with the global settings below, I have this result:
Thanks, @Christian_R . Using the short style definitely works better than the full style, because it avoids the collision with the rehearsal mark. But there’s no setting for “minimum length” that will automatically work for all layouts, which means they all have to be edited by hand in any case.
