Frame-by-Frame Cursor Navigation Using Arrow Keys possible...?

Is it in VST Live 3.0.40 possible to move the cursor just one frame to the left or right using the arrow keys? This would be a big advantage for more precise navigation. At the moment, when I press the arrow keys, the cursor moves continuously to the left or right without stopping. (This continuous behavior could/should still be triggered when holding down the arrow keys.)

I’m really curious :slightly_smiling_face:: Why would you want to do navigate through songs based on frame resolution? Frames are normally used in video editing, and frame rates can differ from 24 to 60 fps, for example. Audio software, however, offers a much higher resolution - so what good would such an option do?

I work extensively with audio and video tracks, and I would like to be able to navigate step by step to the left and right using the arrow keys—similar to how it works in Cubase. (The term “frame” was probably not quite accurate—perhaps “grid unit” would be more appropriate.)

The key point is that the movement should not be continuous. This would allow the video image (for example in a karaoke video) to be moved back step by step, rather than immediately scrolling all the way back to the beginning.

You can move cursor (playhead) frame by frame with mouse on timeline. Then snap objects to cursor.

But yes, cursor navigation and object moving frame by frame would be great.

Question: Is there also kind of a “Marker-Track” available, where I could define some Markers to jump directly to them…? (If not; would it be possible to implement this feature?)

I know: In VST Live 3 there are parts to define the “Markers”, but additionally a Marker-Track would be helpful especially, when I have to find the points in a track with the mouse…

activate “flex” and add a “song track”. Create different PARTs, they will act as “marker points” then you can dial PARTS via mouse of MIDI#CC :slight_smile:

if you dial the PART-No. for “Come alive” or “Refrain” it will jump there.

Also can use key combinations: previous PART next PART (left right maybe, or up/donw)

If you have such, you can set MIDI keys to send values, e.g.:
0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 they are able to fire PARTS 1-10 :slight_smile: etc… also can use TouchOSC, StreamDeck, etc… to send different MIDI CC’s.

@musicullum I found something that is not clear to me: I can dial PARTS (or SONGS), but can’t explain condition in terms of “dial” for “tastatur-keys”. Can’t set e.g. numbers on numeric keypad (Or SHIFT+numbers, etc…) to be “understand” as value(s) for dialing. How can I set and action to use values within a range to “dial” (e.g. numeric keypad’s 0-9)

You can’t, sorry.

I also felt a need to jump to the specific position while training my voice and/or fingers. But since I often don’t need more than two positions in songs to quickly jump forward and backward, I use region markers. One thing is that you can set it as loop and practice verse or chorus or whatever, but also can use them for jumping using keys “[” and “]” (are they by default?) and “Ctrl+[” and “Ctrl+]” to set them to the playhead position. So for every song you have two markers (with assignable keys) to jump to specific place.

Certainly not default. Default for cycle markers are 1 and 2 (to set, with Ctrl) on the numeric keypad (w/o Num Lock), also you can “Reset Category” for Transport in “Devices/Actions and Shortcuts” to see defaults.

If you mean Part up/down, those are arrow keys up/down by default (left and right for next/previous Song).

I set shortcuts to square bracket and it works, but I don’t know why the list shows strange letters. Crazy.

Please, keep in mind that VST Live has never been conceived as a fully featured alternative for your main DAW (where you can probably do most of the things discussed in this thread). The main goal of VST Live is to get your show on stage. Every feature that adds complexity jeopardizes, in my opinion, that goal (as it adds more chances that something goes wrong mid-show).

.. I was just thinking: There are already so many “tracks” anyway, so one more probably wouldn’t make much difference… would it?
