I just bought an upgrade from 12 Pro to 13 Pro on March 31, 2024. Now 14 Pro has been released on November 6, 2024. I feel a bit ripped off. Only after 8 months and Cubase 13 Pro is only 1 year old. Why??? Do I have the option of getting the 14 Pro update without paying the €99.99?
I think you didn´t know that Steinberg releases new versions once a year (give or take). So it´s up to you whether or not you want to upgrade or not. Don´t confuse it with minor maintenance updates which are for free. You can work for years to come with your current version - that is absolutely common around here.
To cut a long story short: if you want to have C14 you have to pay for it.
Nix is für umme
Then I think twice about whether I should buy the 14 Pro during the sale or wait until November next year to buy the 15 Pro update.
Steinberg has removed the 0.5 update steps. Back then, the versions were on a 2-year cycle.
What’s the point of signing up for a newsletter if it’s not communicated exactly that a new version will be released at such a time? For me, such promises were a complete waste of money this year when it came to updates.
It adds up to the same price - no matter if you wait or not. If you wait for C15 then it´ll be 199€ from C13. And if you wait for C16, then it´s still 199€ (if they keep the price model) but you didn´t have the joy to work with a newer version for quite some time. The naming scheme has not much to do with it whether it is called an x.5 or an x.0 version - they are all upgrades. At the end of the day it is a predictable scheme although they keep the actual release date close to their chest. Nevertheless, it´s usually always at around November over the past decade.
