I was wondering if it would be possible in future updates to add the ability for Nuendo or even Cubase to generate a small MP3 file of the project, a sort of preview of the cpr or npr file. It’s true that when I compose, I create projects with any name and when I have to come back to them, if I’ve created many other projects afterwards, I don’t know which is the one I want to open. Such a cpr or npr file preview would be more than useful, as it would avoid having to open all the projects (with their vst, audio loading times…).
A small mp3 file that would be updated as the project progressed. An mp3 or similar that would let you listen for a few seconds and let you know exactly which project you’re about to open. And for those of you who might be wary of such a feature, not least because of the extra storage space involved, well, you can disable this option in the preferences.
I don’t know if other editors have already released this type of feature, but it would be excellent.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and support.

Bonjour,
That is a bit senseless to the majority of the users.
How should the DAW identify the differences between the projects?
Imagine, a movie score with 90 minutes compared to a commercial with 30sec…
Maybe you could change the naming scheme for your projects?
I use the automatic numbering a lot. (save as new version)
User would have to define a section in the project to export as an audio preview, there would be no way to automate it and it be useful to everyone, but I don’t think it is a totally useless idea, as https://dbdone.com/ does it this way.
Sorry my friend, but that is work ethic.
Name/number your projects and exports so you always know which version belongs to which project.
Project_X_vs05 => Temp mix_X_vs05
As soon as you start collaborating with others -and that starts with the client-, you need proper naming and referencing.
In audio post we go much further, by including the video version & music version.
It won’t be long before you face the "Oh, I suppose you didn’t get/I didn’t listen to the latest version.
Naming & communication is crucial in this business.
The idea of saving a 10-second preview as an MP3 isn’t such a bad one. It would have helped us many times. It is enough to trigger an MP3 preview “manually” once, and then you will know which track it is even if you make changes later.
We use customer numbers like 22048 for projects. Unfortunately, the hub always lists them in the order of most recent access, so we don’t get a reasonable alphanumeric project list. Everything’s always jumbled up.
For us, this hub isn’t very useful either, because it’s sorted by date. It should be possible to customize the sorting.
sorry but how hard is it to render a 10sec mp3?
i think this is really a matter of workflow design and not a lacking of options in Nuendo.
Unless you want to listen to mp3s in the hub, that is another thing, but that was not what the original poster asked for right?
Still you can also listen to mp3’s in a separate folder that you generated with your customer/project names. Or use mediabay for it.
I think a cursory review of the feature request makes some sense until one considers all the variables and potential issues surrounding the technical execution of this kind of feature.
Sure, an “auto-preview-mp3” has some utility, but when does it get created? And how often? And where? We’d really need to be able to select which events we want the preview to be representative of, which means we’d have to select some “static range” on a project-by-project basis that doesn’t otherwise change. Then we’d need a “create preview” directive because we certainly couldn’t have Cubase automatically stopping us in the middle of a project to perform an automatic mix down of whatever tracks we want in the preview - which of course brings up a completely separate issue of “huh, how would I choose that?” Then there’s the automatic overwrite of existing files, and the propensity for someone to actually overwrite other files, etc. etc. etc.
So yeah, I agree with you and @Fredo that this really lands on the producer to handle. Creating a submix group where one can just record at will for 10 seconds and grab the file from the pool/Finder/Explorer is a far more manageable and customizable workflow than having to build all that code/process into Cubase. My buck-o-five anyway.
exactly. it is very hard to implement correctly for everyone, but everyone can create their own workaround. so this is a ‘wanna have’ not a ‘need to have’.
