The remote performer has transferred the .zip file to me, I’ve unpacked it and navigated to it in VST Connect Pro, but nothing happens - the HD files are not added to the project, and there are no error messages.
you need to perform „Get Local HD“ from settings, and select that unpacked folder.

It looks like the function is actually working correctly. I auditioned all the audio files in the package, and the missing HD files I wanted to import aren’t there, so there’s nothing to import.
We lost sync at the end of the recording of a track, and it seems it did not get written to the performer’s computer.
That is very unlikely, unless it crashed. Performer local recording works like with any other DAW. If Recording stopped w/o other issues but sync, the recording should be ok nevertheless. It could be that the recording has not been registered correctly, but even that is very unlikely because there was no actual error contition - sync can lead to gaps in realtime recording on the Cubase/Nuendo side, but local recordings are not affected by that.
The .zip file that was generated on the performer’s end didn’t contain the missing file. It may have crashed. How can I find out if the missing file is on his computer?
Did Performer use the “Export for HD” function (setup)? Otherwise it comes to no surprise when recordings are missing. It’s complicated, only that particular function will find all files related to that project (may have been renamed multiple times etc).
