This has kind of always bothered me and when I saw eg Dom YTs it made it all the more clear.
I use -18db as my gain stage model. I use hybrid and despite everyone elses “opinion” (some who dont even use analog), this is the way its been done for a long time
Tape (clip) rms = -18db
Channel Fader Throw = +6
So when doing classical etc and you are focusing low level sections, +6 is nowhere near enough
So how does anyone else do it in Cubase?
Protools provides +12 (although I havent used it for a long time)
In reaper its user definable and goes -72 to +20
Shouldnt this be user configurable for cubase and not assume minimal dynamic range being used by everyone?
Maybe you mean something else, but the maximum volume amplification of the faders can be adjusted between +6 and +12 dB in the project settings. Wouldn’t that be the solution?
Thanks @ASM
I do remember from SX though to C5 it was not in project settings so I gave up (the cost of user siltation)
As it was a gui thing (ie cubase is a 64bit engine so it has virtually limitless headroom) and related to metering…I had wrongly assumed that it would be there in the meters setup. I did check with ChatGPT before but of course all just BS…again and I just trained it again.
I multi stage the gain colours so Ill have to now update
