Getting this error on launch

I get this elicenser error every Cubase Pro 13.0.21 launch on Win 11 Pro. Removed and reinstalled elicenser and VST Connect Pro 5. App was upgraded and activated to Steinberg Activation months ago and worked fine. Why this now? what is connect POS?

Hi,

Please, make sure, you install the very latest VST Connect component. The latest version doesn’t need eLicenser Control Center anymore.

I had installed VST Connect Pro (SE) 5 from download assistant. Is that the correct version? 5.6?

Hi,

5.6, yes. Now make sure it is activated worth the Steinberg Activation Manager properly, please.

Cubase Pro 13.0.40
Windows 11 Pro 23H2
Intel i7 13700K @ 5.00 GHz
64 GB RAM
VST Connect Pro 5.6.0

I’ve been getting this eLicenser Control error on and off for weeks. Whenever it pops up, it’s always upon opening Cubase for the first time that day. Closing, then opening Cubase seems to fix the issue for that day.

I can confirm that I have installed the latest version of VST Connect and VST Connect Performer and it is activated in the Steinberg Activation Manager. At a more granular level, I have the following files installed on my system:

  • C:/Program Files/Steinberg/Cubase 13/Components/vstconnect.dll v. 5.5.41.704
  • C:/Program Files/Common Files/Steinberg/Shared Components/ VST Connect.dll v. 5.6.0.734
  • C:/Program Files/Common Files/Steinberg/Shared Components/vstconnect.dll v. 5.6.0.734
  • C:/Program Files/Steinberg/VST Connect Performer/VST Connect Performer.exe v. 5.6.0.734

I also have a config file at C:/Users/userid/AppData/Roaming/Steinberg/VST Connect/config.html that consists of the following script:

Are there supposed to be three different versions (5.0.1.539, 5.5.41.704 & 5.6.0.734) across the VST Connect files?

Hi,

It might happen, but I would recommend having only one version installed, the latest one. Remove the older versions, please.

Hi Martin - I’ve done that and all seems to be good. The error hasn’t appeared in the past few days, but I’ll let you know if it happens again.

Thanks for your help - it’s greatly appreciated.

I got this error again when I opened Cubase today. I had deleted the older version files and all had been good, so I couldn’t think of why it would be back. Then I remembered that I updated to v.13.0.41 and, sure enough, the C:/Program Files/Steinberg/Cubase 13/Components/vstconnect.dll (v.5.5.41.704) file was back again. I think it’s fairly safe to assume that this is the culprit.

If it’s not too much to ask, can Steinberg please update/remove this instance of vstconnect.dll in your installer software so I won’t get this error in future Cubase 13 version updates?
