Gigabyte/Asus Z68 mobo with Wi-Fi

Hi all,

I’m planning my next upgrade and I’d like to take advantage of the features found on Z68 motherboards.
However, I can’t find any reference to “onboard Wireless” connectivity. My PC is upstairs in my office, and my Wireless router is downstairs, so I require a Wireless based PC.
Most of the boards I’m looking at from Gigabyte and Asus have Realtek RTL8111E chip (10/100/1000 Mbit) - is this just referring to the wired controller, or do all modern mobo’s have on-board wireless these days??

Cheers,

Neil.

No, generally motherboards don’t come with Wifi.
Wifi cards come in all shapes and prices though, mostly different forms of PCI connectors. Only thing you should worry about is driver compatability, these things can be a bit dodgy.

Really?
I have a 5 year old Asus P5W-DH mobo which has on-board Wireless. A lot of laptops come with it, so I was hoping that an old technology would be standard by now on new mobos.

Thanks for your answer though.

Cheers,

Neil.
