I was just asking Ian about you! I’m so happy to see that you’re alive and in good health! I do hope you’ll come back on a semi-regular basis at the very least!
The song is of high quality, as we’ve come to expect from you. I just upgraded my Yamaha SM-3’s to HS-7’s and so while I understand these new monitors are relatively flat, I’m still developing my ears with them. As such, take these comments somewhat lightly:
- The piano seems to have clustered in the mids. It sounds a tad muddy and missing some high end.
- The bass is awfully far back in the mix.
- The solo (nice slide playing!) could stand a bit of a bump as well.
Again, the song itself is wonderful, and the production quality is top notch.
Nice, and very much a Pearldiver’s type song – dense, haunting, poetic. My only request is, like Larry, for a bit more bass.
Well if you’re back, I guess I should post something…

Dense is the right word, Jet. It’s a fabulous track so full of life. If I were mixing I might bring up the bass a touch and lessen the mids somewhat but in the end it’s all about your ears and what you want to say. I really admire that.
