Can I adjust all faders in the mixer globally at the same time in Dorico 6, making them all louder or quieter together?
I’d like to create individual practice files for instruments from a larger orchestra. However, I don’t want to export them only as solo tracks—I want the full orchestra to play quietly in the background as a reference.
Do I really have to adjust every single mixer fader manually, or—hopefully—is there a way to control all faders globally, so that I only need to increase the volume of the solo instrument afterwards?
Thanks for your reply. However, I think you may have misunderstood my question.
I’m not referring to live mixing with the master fader (I can see and use that). What I’m talking about is exporting audio files. I would like to reduce the volume of all instruments in a larger orchestra (more than 20 instruments) at the same time, and then simply raise the volume of one individual instrument for each export.
The goal is to create practice audio files where the selected solo instrument is clearly audible above the rest of the orchestra, while the full orchestra still plays more quietly in the background as a reference.
If you do Play > Apply Default Output Level, then all of your faders will be set to the level specified in Preferences > Play > Mixer. So you could set that preference to something low and then apply it.
Note that this is an application-wide preference, so you might want to set it back to your usual level once you’ve got this project where you want it.
