Going to a New Mac...Questions

In a couple of days I’ll be on a new Mac. Rather than use Migration Assistant, I’d rather add things as I see fit, to avoid years of clutter on the new Mac. I suppose I use Steinberg Download Assistant to install Cubase 14, but to make sure I don’t lose all my key commands and prefs, do I just Export my profile and that’s it? Or is there more I should be aware of?
Thanks
Tom

Hi,

This thread might help you.

Normally, exporting your settings as a profile file (.srf extension) should do the trick, as it is supposed to contain all the preferences, but also global workspaces, key commands, plug-ins collections, etc.

This said, the only time I relied on this feature, Cubase crashed during the import of the .srf file (it was a rather long time ago, with Cubase 12, if I remember well). Since, I never tried it again and regularly save the whole content of the preferences folder instead (its location is mentioned there).

There are a few pitfalls involved you should be aware of when it comes to profiles. They are mentioned in the post Martin linked. Once you know about them you should be fine.
I agree, profiles take care of the otherwise cumbersome little buggers that take ages to restore. Just import your profile before you start Cubase, launch Cubase, activate the profile and relaunch Cubase.

Good luck!
