I purposely waited until October 18th 2016 to register Cubase 8.5 so I’d be eligible for the grace period update only to find they moved it to October 26th! (it was in early October last year). I’m bummed , is there anything I can do?

Same for me! If only we could still get the 8.5 to ease the pain but it seems it is not available anymore. 
The release dates of 8.5 and 9 are not exactly the same so you can’t count on the grace period dates to be the same. I’m sure it’s annoying though if you miss it by just a few days.
