Groove Agent and Drum Machine

While AI can be really useful as a tool for some tasks, I think it is total crap to seek lame excuses to use it as a replacement for your own missing creativity or refusal to improve your own musical and producer skills.

So while I appreciate AI for subordinate tasks like stem separation - which Steinberg already offers - I’m not one bit crazy for functions which do what I want to do myself in Cubase.

The present waste of time, and of planet killing energy waste, just for childish forms of AI use (like having stupid kids generate funny images), along with a lot of absolutely mindless AI hype, is mind boggling nonsensical from my view.

All that is true but we may not be so far from technological singularity, while we speak about GA and beat machines we forget Kurzweil Reading Machine and Stevie Wonder. All Daw’s are fundamentally primitive AI machines running on cybernetic devices.

My guess is that a preview of the in-development Groove Agent 6 will be Drum Maschine built into Cubase 14. GA6 will include a drum synth and improve the workflow like Cubase 14, and will integrate nicely into Lower Zone.

I have the feeling that some people don’t distinguish between “Drum Machine” and the “Pattern Editor”.
So, excuse me for using capitals:

THE PATTERN EDITOR WORKS INDEPENDENT OF DRUM MACHINE

Drum Machine holds just the sounds.

You can have fun with Groove Agent and the new Pattern Editor, as I have written above:

Thanks a lot for your help !

There are four layers per pad and each layer has Vel>Lev setting. So it’s not the same depth as true velocity mapping, but it does allow you to bring in additional sounds at increasing velocities by using that control.

Yes sure, but four velocity layers are not remotely enough for acoustic drums velocity layering. I don’t expect the Drum Maschine to offer that, I just care about possible Kit import from Groove Agent.

You must not be a cubase user my friend…I have gone through your posts, it clearly shows that you are jealous of the advanced developments done to the DAW. Remember, the DAW is called “ADVANCED MUSIC PRODUCTION SYSTEM.” This indeed is very true. There is no any other DAW that has the features that Cubase has. FL studio users used to brag about the simple drum sequencer, but now, Steinberg has done it! It has quieted everyone with the advanced drum machine! Which other DAW can be compared with Cubase?? Not even Avid Pro Tools or Logic Pro. The workflow in Cubase is fast and clean. The sound engine is cristal clear. I was and am still FL studio and Ableton user, I have as well used Pro Tools many a times in different studios; but I can tell you this for free bro, Cubase is the best. The many features that you are saying have made it bloat are actually the ones that make it advanced and excellent above all the DAWs. Also, know it that Cubase is a DAW for professionals who know what to do with it, it communicates to the user as a true musician.
Nuendo is a post production DAW bro, it is not the same as Cubase. If you like you can refer to it as Cubase Ultimate.
For your information, it is possible to use sampled kits of GA in the new drum machine in Cubase 14, note, only the kits made of samples, not acoustic kits.
Lastly, let’s give Steinberg due respect and stop using such ungrateful statements as “GA is dead” “Cubase is an old DAW”, “Drum machine will die”…etc, yet the fact and truth is, Cubase is indeed an advanced Music production software that requires people with brains to use it. Nobody forces anybody to use it, it is all about one’s understanding and knowledge of the DAW.

Drum machine in Cubasis on my phone would be brilliant for songwriting using acoustic guitar!

It seems obvious to me that the new Drum Machine features, specifically the drum synthesis engines, will be rolled into Groove Agent 6. And I’m sure it will be possible to use Groove Agent with the new Drum track type. That would be the entire reason to upgrade to Groove Agent 6 for most people.

Anyone predicting that Groove Agent will somehow be abandoned doesn’t appreciate the investment Steinberg has made in Groove Agent. Although one can argue that GA is “over-engineered,” it is still the premier sample-based drum module/machine/sequencer plugin on the market. Although Groove Agent doesn’t have a corresponding hardware controller the way Native Instrument Maschine and Akai MPC do, the GA software itself is superior, IMO. Although I haven’t checked out the latest Maschine v3 software, the v2 software flat out sucks. It was so horrible that I used my Maschine mk II controller as a glorified (and expensive) drum pad until I finally just gave it away because it took up too much room on my desk. I now use Groove Agent exclusively along with a few drum synth plugins.

The only thing that has been missing from Groove Agent are various drum synthesis engines. I’m sure those will be coming in Groove Agent 6. I am eagerly awaiting the upgrade for which I will happily pay.

Hopefully Steinberg expands even further on these new drum synthesis engines. I would love to see something along the lines of Aly James Lab VSDS-X Simmons-style drum synth plugin (but with a much better UI):

VSDS-X is hands down the best Simmons drum synth on the market. It’s sounds practically identical to the real thing. It’s an instant 80s vibe. Something like that in Groove Agent would be awesome.

Their LinnDrum clone VProm is equally brilliant.
I’m really impressed with both of these plugins.

I so hope you’re right. The Subtractive / FM Synth engine in combination with all the GA features…yes please.

I think so too.
If that comes true, we don’t need to Kick 3.
