Turn on Force Duration (“O” key), then input the dotted quarter.

Select the dotted crotchet. Press 6, press o (force duration), make sure your grid resolution is 8th note, press shift-alt-Right arrow once.
Unfortunately, fiddling with Notation options does not get you there, but force duration will always do what you need (it’s just less automatic).
