Group track vs. Folder track

AFAICT - they both are containers for other tracks.

Is there some difference between them?

Group tracks are a bus that you can route other tracks into to create a sub mix. From there you can do things such as adjust the volume, add inserts, send the signal somewhere else and do automation.

Only the Folder Track is a ‘container’ for other Tracks. It is primarily an organizational structure which also lets you Edit multiple Tracks at once.

A Group Track is a Type of Audio Channel that can act as routing destination for other Audio sources. It is analogous to how physical mixers work.

In some DAWs the organizational structure & audio routing are integrated into a single item. In Cubase the 2 functions are seperated.

Got it. Thanks.

Damn you read that fast. Yes that’s it exactly.

Quick as a bunny.
