this might be a more non-dorico specific question, but I hope somebody can help me with this!
I’m writing for a Guitar Part and I use a Freeze Pedal (which just holds the note forever, if you want to).
I’m using Noteperformer as playback and my Guitar Playback is just a single stroke but not holding.
Can I use some external VST Plugin to simulate this for playback? Or is there a way to do this inside Dorico?
I guess the problem is, that with fermatas, the meter stops for a certain time. So I cannot add a fermata just to a single staff, it applies it to all other instruments as well.
I also tried by adding a piano pedal, which gives me some sort of “let it ring” effect. However, it does have a high attack and a very low sustain level.
At some points, I want to lower the volume of the frozen note, so the guitarist uses a volume pedal. I would do this by automating the track volume i.e.
I guess that I would need something like a Sample & Hold Plugin probably. But unsure…
So, Chris, am I correct that you are using Dorico Chord Symbol playback to generate the sounds of your guitar?
If so, you may have to use a hidden staff to generate the sound(s) to sustain, and I am not sure a standard guitar patch will create a sound that sustains the way a real electric guitar might. You may have to search around for a suitable sound to use on your hidden staff and then also assign that sound to your guitar chord track as well for consistency.
No, I have just a single note that is played back and sustained for around 7 seconds (I tied the note to make it so long).
Dorico plays the sound with a high attack and then lets it ring until there is no sound left (around 4-5 seconds later).
However, the sound is very low in volume after being played (as a regular guitar would sound like).
I would use a Freeze Pedal in this case like:
Electro Harmonix Freeze Sound Retainer
which you would just hit right after playing the note and it captures the sound and loops it forever, so it is steady in sound and does not fall off in volume.
However, I do not find any such plugin as a vst, unfortunately. So I was thinking of building my own with MaxMSP and then export it as a VST. But unsure if it’s worth the work, if I cannot automate the plugins either (because I need to turn off the freeze again of course lol)
I can make an invisible back up track of course, but I think it’s not worth the work in the end. Was just thinking if there may be an easier solution, because in a DAW this would be fairly easy to do.
