For the love of guitar, please tell me it is finally so.
I’m fairly sure it would appear in the Version History. And it’s not there.
Would you mind outlining your requirements in this regard, so the development team can better accommodate your needs?
Sincerely,
Benji
Well, it’s been a long-time requirement from MIDI guitar players. Dorico does not recognize the instrument, as a MIDI guitar is quite specific, each string is like one separate instrument. Were it recognized by Dorico, inputting super clear TABs would be a breeze for an experienced guitar player.
Yes, as Marc says, the development team is quite aware of this requirement. In fact this very development team implemented string per midi channel input in Sibelius even before Dorico ever existed.
I don’t own Sibelius, so could you explain how it ingested input from 6 different MIDI channels and turned it into logical notation on a single staff? I can only conceptulaize a very specific instrument type and some extremely complicated logic to manage the channel ↔ (staff) voice mapping (but I’m just guessing…)
Each string corresponds to a specific string, so you can infer the fingering from the combination of knowing the channel and pitch for each note, allowing you to create accurate tablature that matches what was played by the guitarist.
