I am a new Cubase user (from Pro Tools). When I create an audio track and add a VST amp sim I get latency when playing the guitar - something I don’t get in Pro Tools. Are there some unique settings in CB14 Pro I need to have in order to fix this? My buffer is set to as low as 128 and there is still the delay when playing with nothing else happening. My computer is plenty powerful enough.
Hi,
do you have an audiointerface and if so - which one and is it set up correctly, especially with regards to the ASIO driver?
That would be the first thing to look at. If you go to Studio/Studio Setup/Audio System and look to the right: which ASIO driver do you see?
I have a PreSonus Studio 1810C and yes everything is setup fine. I have been using it in Pro Tools for years with no problem. This is the first time I am trying to use Amp Sims in CB14 and there is latency - even without the Amp Sim Activated in the Insert.
My Input latency is listed as 4.167 ms (output 17.5ms), but when I strum, what I hear back is delayed.
The latency will be driven by all plug-ins used in the session. If there are other high-latency plug-ins on other tracks, or the master buss, that will affect overall latency.
Constraining delay compensation may be a way of temporarily getting around the issue.
What @kelp said.
You can check each channel for added latencies like this:
You’ll probably know that Look-Ahead-Plugins like Limiters usually cause higher latencies.
If you want to activate Constrain Delay Compensation (CDC) you can do so by clicking in the bottom left of your project window
It’s also good to know that you can set up the threshold for plugins for CDC so that your fx on that specific track is not necessarily deactivated by CDC if you set it up accordingly:
Edit/Preferences/VST > Delay Compensation Threshold
I can’t explain it, but I started a session from scratch and don’t have the problem there. Maybe something happened with the other session.
Yeah, these things happen. Maybe something went haywire, maybe a plugin?
Nonetheless, the tips on latency control might come in handy on another project.
Glad you sorted it out ![]()
