Halion 6 and SE3 Standalone, crash when trying to save program, or preset

I’m using HAlion 6 4 3, and Sonic SE3, as plug in Nuendo, without Problems.

But when i use those as standalone version, it works well until i try to save program or presets of triggers notes :

  • IT Crashes, with error message talking about a log file, i never found, as you can see on picture.

OR
-Savind procedure open the windows folder selection (as usual), but when i try to save on any folder, i’ve a message:" the file canot be found" just like a wrong LOADING process, but i’m SAVING !!!

My computer works with WINDOWS 10 family updated.

On the picture you can see the error message when saving to the "normal folder"where Halion used to store the presets and pgms…
I can save halion Sonic files in another folder of my datas HD, but Halion is not able to find this folder later and use this file. With Halion 6 nothing happen when trying to save trigger presets, then it crashes when saving Pgms.

Hi,
if you save a program not the Windows Explorer but the HALion Media dialog should appear (see below)

This will ensure that HALion, HALIon Sonic and HALion Sonic SE will have access and share the same presets. Saving the program presets somewhere else is intended just for backup reasons.
The last said goes for saving “Pad presets” as well, even though this will be handled via the system save/load dialog (Windows Explorer) and should look like this:

Although I have no idea how you managed to get the save dialog in your second screenshot it shouldn’t crash of course!
So how did you manage to get that dialog?
best regards
Gerrit

I get the save menu after the crash, when i quit Halion 6 or Sonic.
Then i get the message you can see on the second screenshot, but if i chose another folder than D\OneDrive… i can save a vst preset.

Is it because OneDrive is on the D partition instead of C ?
thank for your help!

i’ve those problems on my Laptop, with my other Pc (tower) WIN 10 Familly, the one i use for postprod and music : Nuendo 10, Absolute 4… I’ve no problems with standalone versions, when i save multiprograms or presets, i get the Halion window you show me.

To resume :

On my laptop when i try to save a multiprogram, It seems Halion can’t , write or access to D:\OneDrive\VST3 Presets\Steinberg Media Technologies\HALion 6. And i get Crash Message.

It’s the same when saving trigger preset, and also when using Halions as plugs in NUendo8 i’ve in my laptop.

Most of time, the select Preset (trigger) menu don’t open, but sometime Yes, and i can select a preset of trigger notes.

But Halion can read (so access to) the files in this folder D:\OneDrive\VST3 Presets\Steinberg Media Technologies\HALion 6.
I’ve done a copy of multiprograms done on the TowerPC to this folder, and i found them in the Halion loading list and load them without PB.

I tryed to reinstall Halions, problem still there :slightly_frowning_face:

I think that OneDrive might be the problem.

It’s probably not a good idea to save and load directly from OneDrive.

May be , but i didn’t chose this, the Halion installer program created those folders in OneDrive without asking me
And i see no way to change this.

If you open the command line tool ( type “cmd” in the searchfield at the bottom and press Enter) and you type “set pro” followed by Enter and it doesn’t look close to the pathsettings attached here:

something is wrong with your windows installation!

Gerrit

Well, i’ve quite the same, except Stepping 1 instead of 3.

I’ve got a recent Halion6.log file !!! : the first one after lot of crashes :frowning:

As the default path for HALion seems to be ok, my assumption is that you gave the permission to set the default storage location to Onedrive during your Windows 10 installation .

I found a solution to get Log files of crash reports

To get this, i had to open parameters of C:\Program Files\Steinberg and allow modification for user in the security menu

Now every crash is reported

I also allowed modification for user in the security menu of OneDrive, (i thought i’ve found the solution). but nothing changes, i still have the File not found message when saving to OneDrive :rage: :triumph:

Thank you Gerrit Junge !

I found the Solution !!!

It was a problem of Intel drivers update.

To solve this, i went to Windows update in the Parameter window, and found Intel drivers update files ready to download and install. This done, after a restart, Halions now is happy to save, so do i
