HALION not showing in Dorico / MUSIO

Hi,

I have installed Halion (the one that comes with Dorico 5) but it doesn’t show up when adding VST and MIDI.

I was wondering if I have do to a rescan somewhere.

Has also anyone tried to use MUSIO with Dorico? The plug in doesn’t even show (perhaps it is not compatible / usable?)

I am basically looking to have a more comprehensive pool of non-orchestral sounds (synths, drumkits, etc) that are not orchestral (for that I am using NOTE PERFORMER) that I can use to have a better listening when checking scores.

Thanks in asvance!

Hi @Lollo_12345 , regarding HALion not showing, please invoke from Dorico’s main menu Help > Create Diagnostics Report and post the corresponding zip file here. Thanks

Hi @Lollo_12345 , thanks for the diagnostics. HALion Sonic is not showing with you because it is on the blacklist, i.e. during startup a vstscanner runs and prunes out plug-ins that misbehave, to say the least. What this misbehaving in your case is, we need to find out.
Therefore please do the following:

  • Stop Dorico and press the Windows key and typ the 3 letters CMD and Enter, a small black window appears
  • Copy & Paste the following string into the command window:
"\Program Files\Steinberg\Dorico5\VSTAudioEngine\Components\vstscanner.exe" -p "\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Steinberg\HALion Sonic.vst3\Contents\x86_64-win\HALion Sonic.vst3"
  • Make sure you really copy from the first to the very last of the quotation marks.
  • Once pasted, press the Return or Enter key
  • Wait a few seconds until the command prompt comes back.
  • Then type
 echo %errorlevel%
  • and press Return/Enter
  • What is the outcome then. It should be just 0, please tell me if it is any other number that you see.
    Thanks

it returns “0”

But then it shouldn’t be on the blacklist.
So do the following please:
In the File Explorer address bar copy 'n paste the line

"%appdata%\Steinberg\Dorico 5 AudioEngine_64"

and press the Return/Enter key. In the location where the FileExplorer will jump to, delete the folder \Dorico 5 AudioEngine VST3 Cache completely. Don’t worry, it will get recreatedd during the next Dorico run.
Next run, good point, now launch Dorico again and see how it behaves.
It will certainly take longer than usual, because all plug-ins will get scanned again. Now check the blacklist again, which is in the newly created cache folder.

Hi,

I now keep getting this:

If you have lots of VST plug-ins, rescanning after deleting the cache folder will take a while, so click Continue to Wait and be patient for a few more minutes.

Ok great! I though that was a message of crash, will keep waiting then!

All of that worked perfectly, all the plugins (even missing ones) are now loaded and perfectly functioning. Thanks!
