Just wondered after trimming a sample in the sample Editor is there a way to make this permanent? I.e. recover space on the hard drive.
I’m guessing you could export or re-save I just wondered if you could resize original sample

Hi @grayedout !
The HALion sample editor does non destructive work.
To make the HALion Sample editor changes permament, you need to export samples.
Another way is to configure an external editor such as Steinberg WaveLab, Spectralayers or Audacity/Tenacity in the options tab.
This will allow you to right click a sample in the editor and open it for destructive editing.
Unfortunately this will not save space, as it is working on a copy of your original. But as soon as you save it and return to HALion, you get the option to overwrite the existing file.
I hope this clears things up.
Ok great I’ll have a look , I have both SL and WL
If you do not want to save space, the external editor is a really cool feature. You can jump back and forth between the programs, to do destructive editing, while HALion allows you to keep a backup copy of the original. I use this a lot, especially with spectral layers and field recordings, for experimental sounds. Sometimes there is a lot to discover in a simple ambient recording.
I love HALion , for me it’s a game changer , once again love sampling! and I started on a FairLight …lol
