Hi everyone,
I’ve searched the forum and not found exactly this problem (although a lot of discussion about grace note spacing algorithms.)
I don’t seem to be able to manually move these grace notes closer to their main note… I am not sure what handle I am supposed to use. Or is it not possible? It seems like it should be possible. I’ve checked and there are not other items attached to my gracenotes (like text or tempi or anything else that could alter spacing).
This is something I find very annoying too, mainly because those handles do not behave in the same way the ones attached to main notes do, creating the same confusion you have experienced.
Luckily for me I had never had to do this at start of systems, but I feel your pain.
The square of the main note should behave as it does elsewhere, that is approaching to the grace note. A clue of what may be going south is that, if you make a selection containing both notes and grace notes, they are not considered to be the same kind of object. It is for sure much more complicated than what we can understand here.
Use the Note Spacing properties in Engrave mode. You may need to move both notes (the principal and the grace) to get the result you want, but I think it should be possible.
There is an Engraving option that set the “Minimum lenght for ties between grace notes and normal notes” in case you would like to change the distance for the whole project.
