Handling songs

Hi ! I want to build songs but separately. And further, I’ll gather them in a project. I can set a Cubase song, export it in VSTL file but I didn’t found the way to export in a “VSTL song” file. I have to go through a project (vlrpj) and then save as a song. Nothing simplier ? Thanks !

Hi @silverhead,

sorry, but I don’t understand your post. Can you give me some more hints?

Cubase → VST Live : First you need to export your Cubase project, then you can import the project to VST Live.

VST Live → Cubase : First you need to export your VST Live Song, then you can import it to Cubase.

What’s missing? Thank you,
Michael.

With “Import” in VST Live, use “Create Song”.

It seems I must give some more explanations. I thought that exporting a cubase song into a media project would give a song : song=song. But not ! (I think). Exporting a cubase song give a VST project (and vlsrpj and vlrpj is so confusing !). So let’s forget what I did, and let’s see what the best way of gathering songs (exported cubase songs) in a VST project (including setlists including songs). For now, I must export a media project, open it in VSTL and then save a song. It works ! but…it can only be done in an empty folder (?)…and that folder can only contain one song !!! What did I miss ? Thanks !

Hi!

You see, you can choose between
Create new proj with importing a song or
Create new song within an existing proj.
Very intuitíve I think.

Regarding folders it’s not too sophisticated either. It needs some sub-folder not to mix up materials for each songs, E.g I have an “IMP-EXP” folder and saving my songs under this

A Cubase Project relates to a VST Live Song. Or vice versa, a VST Live Song relates to an entire Cubase Project.

Please carefully look at the options given in the dialog when you import a media project from a Cubase Project. You may create a new VST Live Project, but you can also import the exported media project as one Song into the actual VST Live Project. If you want to create a setlist from multiple Cubase Projects, export all Cubase Project first, then import each as a new Song (! - not Project!) in VST Live.

I understand that all must be done within a VST project. Experience of the day : I managed creating separate songs (.vlsong), waiting for gathering them later as setlists. For working on one of those songs, I had to create a project, but when I tried to “load” the song, the answer was : “no project folder found, you have to save first…” Hum, I did, but it means that I’ll have as much project than songs, and as much folder than songs… Maybe it could have been simplier, no ?

…so that it knows where to save your project, Songs etc.

Just save an empty project once to a new folder, where you want everything to be. You only need to do that once. Then you can import one Song after the other into that project. “Save As” from time to time, but you can always open the last project and continue to work with it.

It looks like you are trying something more complicated than necessary. You don’t need to export Songs. Just import the media projects you exported from Cubase one by one into the same VST Live project, select “Create Song” in the import options. This creates a Song and adds it to the current project, no need to save it seperately. Just “Save”, or “Save as”, and all imported Songs stay within the VST Live project. It is a container of Songs, in your case, multiple Cubase projects.

OK for that, that’s the answer I asked for : songs can only be handled in projects. I’ll do that way (I had another suprise this morning : working on a previous song (so, in a new project), I had to save it in another empty folder !!!
