i’m working on a film project recording narration. we usually supply audio to our clients as aafs successfully but i simply can’t get resolve (which we and the editor is using) to import the aaf.
might there be a setting on either platform that could fix this?
Are you exporting finished stems, an ADM file, or a fully bounced timeline? The choice can significantly impact workflow efficiency, especially when transitioning between Nuendo and Resolve Fairlight.
While AAF import has been technically reliable, its effectiveness between Nuendo and Fairlight can be unpredictable. Though it works for certain workflows, it often struggles with complex routing, automation, and plugin data, making it less than ideal for seamless transfers. In many cases, AAF has functioned as a one-way street, primarily from Resolve to Nuendo, limiting flexibility in round-trip workflows.
However, ADM has recently proven to be a far more reliable alternative, consistently maintaining audio integrity, even when Atmos is not a project requirement. Some have found success using AA Translator, but in our experience, its reliability has been inconsistent at best. Given these limitations, choosing the right export method is crucial to ensuring a smooth and efficient post-production process.
i haven’t tried adm yet but all i’m doing is exporting 4 mono tracks of voiceover. no eq, no inserts. lots of small clips and some longer ones. the film is about 1hr40mins. the aff is about 800mb and i’m exporting it as one embedded file.
when i try to import this into rhe resolve media pool nothing happens. not a thing. i can drop all the individual files into the pool but i can’t get them to move to their correct timecode position. it should be super simple but i’m struggling with it.
Ok, but specifically what are your settings? Even just a screenshot of what you’ve tried would suffice.
I’ve never imported AAF into Resolve so I can’t comment on that. Have you tried AAFs from other projects? Maybe tried an AAF from a much shorter range, say the first 10 minutes only? Double check file naming perhaps to make sure there aren’t any funky characters included?
Please try not to embedd the aaf.some daw/nle programs have a issue with embedding.
Also try to run the aaf file in resolve prior to dragging everything in bin.
Try running aaf local, not from external drive.
There are many little stuff that can be an issue.
Export settings in nuendo etc.
