Has the score editor lost its tablature capabilities?

Soooo, Cubase 14’s score editor has a massively improved interface, which is great and all, but I’m under the impression that the guitar tablature capabilities has pretty much gone away? Or am I missing something?

We’re working on basic tab support for a future update.

Yes, not there as yet… it’s said its coming though in an update…

Continue with C13 for now, for your TAB requirements.

EDIT - @PaulWalmsley beat me to it…!

How futuristic is this future update? This could get me shifted from Studio One to Cubase again but I’ve already activated my 60 days trial.

I have Cubase 12 right now, I don’t know if things are improved in version 13 but the score editor is pretty terrible.

We can’t say much about our internal schedules, and we don’t like to promise things until we know that they are done because there are often technical problems discovered that means things need to be delayed. I would say ‘quite soon’.

Oh… I don’t know either, sorry… but am curious, what have you been using for your TAB scores output thus far.?

Thanks for the honest answer. Any chance if I write to support they could cancel my trial period so I can activate it again when the editor is fixed?

I’ve been using Guitar Pro which is surprisingly efficient for compose any instrument but they really messed up the general MIDI playback and it’s barely usable now so I’m looking for an alternative. Studio one’s current editor is better than Cubase 12 (and I assume 13) but still really rough around the edges to say it politely.

I’m not sure about whether that’s possible.

I understand, thanks anyway.

see what the next 60 days bring…

waiting for this (tab) as well. Are there currently “chord” name capability for the score?

Looks like Tab was added in the maintenance update 14.0.10 two days ago!!!
At least, I think so. I haven’t upgraded yet. If this update does indeed include full tab support I will upgrade now. Surprised not to see any posts about this here.

Well to be fair you can probably count the people who are going to use Cubase to write their tabs on the fingers of one hand.

I can confirm that Tab has been added - check the updated Score Editor manual - and seems to do what I need. I’m still trying to figure out some aspects (showing triplets properly, changing string, etc.) but have not had a chance to read the manual properly. It’s looking promising though, and is an impressively quick update.

Just found that you can assign key commands to move notes up or down a string in the Tab staff.

indeed, we’ve got “Move To String” key commands now, but you can also select notes and use the “Cross To Staff” key command or score menu entry, which will move notes up or down a string, as long as a notation and tab stave are showing.
There isn’t currently a way to change the tuning of the strings, aside from picking one when choosing an instrument type. This is an area we’ll improve in a future update.

Thanks Stefan, the Cross to Staff commands work very well.
