Having trouble fixing imported audio playback being sped up

I have a project using the WAV files from an old VHS recording. I initially made some cuts in Reaper but decided to work in Cubase to grab a few samples.

Problem is, Cubase is apparently speeding up the audio, so the locations of the cut points in Reaper end up being too late in Cubase, and the pitch is higher in Cubase.

I checked the sample rate of the audio and both Reaper and Cubase and it’s all 48khz. Same with my interface. Both the Cubase and Reaper projects are set to 120bpm, though the original recording was a live show of multiple songs with different tempos, so that’s meaningless in terms of the actual audio.

I checked the media pool and none of the imported files have the Musical Mode box checked.

What could be causing this? How do I get Cubase to play the audio as it should, and prevent this from happening in future imports?

Perhaps try to delete those files from the Cubase Audio Pool, and try to reimport again. Sometime its’ easy to import the files incorrectly, and what you hear is likely the result from that.

*note that if you only remove them from your project, when you try to reimport it will not actually reimport but use the same files.

More clarity needed on how you have transferred a project from Reaper into Cubase.
If you made cuts in Reaper did you export the audio files from there and these are the problematic ones?
Have you tried importing the original files into Cubase…are these in correct pitch?
It’s almost certainly going to be a sample rate mismatch somewhere…but possibly the error was in the recording stage.

Thanks Beerbong and Grim, I think you both found the answer. I don’t know how I missed it the first time but got the necessary clue when I tried deleting and reimporting one of the files from the Cubase project, and got a prompt about changing the sample rate from 44.1khz to match the project. So I did a little more digging and although Reaper and Cubase were both set to 48khz it looks like Reaper’s export options had 44.1khz set–probably a carryover from whatever the last project exported was. So looks like I just need to tweak that and redo the export from Reaper and import to Cubase to get it to match up.
