I could use some help. I need to rework a track from an old project that relied on NI’s Battery 3. Unfortunately, on my current setup, I can no longer open or install Battery 3. I’ve tried everything… no way to get it to work on OSX Sonoma.
Would anyone with a working Battery 3 be kind enough to load my session and let me know the names of the kits used for these four tracks? I would be incredibly grateful!
I guess you won’t get far with names only since Battery 3 kits are different from Battery 4 kits.
Installing Battery 3 is a drag since you need to run an ancient installer and delete the current one beforehand. However, have you tried to save the Battery 3 content in a location of your choice and convert the files into a Battery 4 readable format using Battery 4? That should do the trick.
Hey,
Normally, B4 can open B3’s kits, so I just need the kit names to create a new track in B4 and load a compatible kit. I still have my B3 kits folder on an external hard drive.
I wasn’t able to install B3 normally because the installer is too old, and macOS blocks the installation. However, I extracted all the files using Pacifist and manually installed every component. While B3 does open in Cubase, it only appears as a blank instrument.
Yes, the reason that the B3 kits remain blank when opened in B4 is that you need to format them with B4 in the file menu like I said. Unless you do that - no B3 content in B4 because another format is reqiured. I no longer have B3 content on my system so I can’t help you with that.
You misunderstood me, Battery 3 opens blank, not B4. I can open B3 kits in B4 without any issues.
Nonetheless, i only need someone to open the session with Cubase and a functional Battery 3 to give me the names of the kits used in order for me to then open them in B4. I just need to know what was used in my old session.
Cheers
Ah, okay. Did you do anything to the B3 kits to open them with B4 or did they adapt the file compatabiliy in B4? Good to know if the latter is true, I haven’t touched B3 content for a long time.
Sorry that I can’t help you with the names. Hopefully someone else has B3 installed on their system.
Good luck!
The thing is that i don’t know what kits i used. That is my issue. When i open my session it says Battery 3 is missing. There is no way to know what kit was used unless B3 is installed.
All i can do except now is for someone to have B3 installed so they can load up the tracks and see what kits where used.
Once i have the names i just need to open a Battery 4 and load up the kits.
Hi Greg,
That would be awesomen thanks ! I’ve been using B4 for years now, but i unfortunetly had to open up a very old session of mine that had four B3 tracks. At the time, i didn’t Render In Place all of my VSTi at the end of a project to avoid these kind of issues…
No, no, you got me wrong. That was not supposed to be a part of the solution - I took the liberty to maybe profit from your findings. If it is possible to use B3 content just like that I will do so on my own rig
Oh sorry. Well i think you do not need to convert B3 kits. They normally open automatically if you load them on B4. It is the same extension. Similar to Kontakt’s .nki, the most recent Kontakt players can open very old .nki
So i am almost certain it is the same with B4.
Sorry for the delay. I keep bankers hours, but overtime today on a Saturday.

And attached is my obligatory link to further demonstrate how NI has deteriorated since the abandonment of Kore. (AI did a lame comparison when I typed “why battery 3 is better than battery 4.”) Battery 4 was built from Kontakt and that is part of the problem.
Greg,
You are awesome, thank you ! Life saver !
I miss KORE, i used it a lot, and some sounds where absolutely unique !
Interesting video you posted. Unfortunetly, NI has maybe become too big of a factory i think. Lots of “trendy” content, but lacks real innovation since Massive X. All recent Kontakt instruments lack depth imo…
Still waiting for Absynth 2… (Absynth 1 will now be discontinued…). C’est la vie !
