HI everyone, I was converting my old sibelius file to Dorico and I don’t know how to to make each pieces into it’s own flow, mind the custom fonts in Dorico.
Thanks in advance

Hi @odhot, just select the barline where you want your new Flow to appear, and from menu Write choose Split Flow.
You may need to edit the Project Info customizing the Flow Titels etc…
Your xml file had errors in it. Around bar 377, Dorico gives up! This is probably due to tuplets not adding up.
Is it better to convert to mxl or musicxml so dorico knows better
OK let me try first
I think it makes little difference.
What can make a difference is importing the xml into MuseScore and seeing how that program reports the errors. (It is slightly more tolerant than Dorico of badly formed xml files)
Hi @odhot, here a basic guide on how to do it (there are some weird things happening, due to the xml that is not totally correct, but it works nicely with some little tricks).
Select the double barline before the Andantino (bar 67), and split the flow.
In engrave mode click on the Reset Layout button.
Delete the extra bars using the System Track.
Select the double barline before the Grazioso (now end of bar 105)
Split the Flow.
At the beginning of Flow 3 (Grazioso), select both time signatures, with Command(Control)+click and delete them, then select the 3/4 that appears and delete it. Select the first note and apply a 6/8.
In bar 38 select the eight rest, activate Insert Mode in Player scope:
Delete the eight rest and all the music should be more or less correct.
Split now the last allegro.
(you have some unnecessary voices in the first piece…but I don’t have the original now…, you may want to check those and other things throughout…)
Here the file after those steps (it requires some more additional work of course…):
4 Klavierstücke, Op.119 – Johannes Brahms (complete)-AFTER SPLITTING FLOWS.dorico (2.5 MB)
how about the Bar Numbers? will the bar number restart again from the beginning?
Try and you will see (I attached a file in my previous post): each Flow is a complete independent piece of music and the bar numbering will start from 1 (or from 0 if you have a pick-up bar).
Thank you so much Christian! It’s better now, however all the slurs and other stuffs are so messy, is there any way to reposition everything automatically? and also some voices are broken …
Hi @odhot, as an exercise for myself I made some editing of Nr. 1, and bar 37 of Nr.3 (I followed the layout of the Breitkopf edition). You can have a look, and if you have very specific questions, please tell in which bar you have some issue. You can generally compare the global settings opening the Library Manager and compare this file with the previous one.

Hi Chris! Thank you so much for this, I really appreciate it. Anyway can you englighten me how to do this ? I am so confused … thanks to you my problem is solved.
Not sure what you’re referring to but to recreate this you need to uses voices:
And cross staff beaming:
@odhot
Sure. Here is the workflow for Bar 11:
set this Notation Option for that flow (select the desired flow/s on the right, before changing the option):
set the voices column index, for the selected notes, as shown (in Engrave mode):
set and adjust the Custom Centered Beam, and the stem length:
Ohh man, this is absolutely so helpful! thank you so much Christian for doing this, I was so desperate because last time I was not able to do this with previous version of Dorico.
