Help! WaveLab Pro 12 on mac intel quits when I try to open it

And I have no idea why !!! I’ve been mastering yesterday, starting from scratch because it was already quitting when trying to open a recent file. And now I cannot even launch the app. Is there something to do, such as create diagnostic files in Dorico?
[Edit] I have moved files from Renderings, that might have caused the problem?

Do you use plugins in the Master Section?

Normally, this can happen if a buggy plug-in is left in the Master Section when closing WaveLab and then if you use the setting that restores the previous Master Section configuration when opening WaveLab, it crashes WaveLab instantly.

Or, maybe you’re telling WaveLab to automatically reopen a certain file/project etc. at launch and that has a buggy plug-in or setting causing the instant crash.

Whether it’s that or something else, deleting your WaveLab Preferences folder usually solves the issue but do not do that before you make a copy of your WaveLab Preferences folder to potentially manually restore some settings and files.

PG can likely tell you which specific files in the Preferences folder to delete to do as little damage as possible to preserve some your other settings like Render Presets etc. but the nuclear option is to just fully delete the entire Preferences folder and start fresh.

The general.dat file is a common starting point for deleting files within the WaveLab Preferences folder but again, PG can better guide you if you don’t want to delete the entire folder.

Oh yes, I’ve been using plug-ins: Amek 200 EQ, Amek mastering compression, Relab Maselec MEA-2, Relab Maselec MLA-4, UAD Ampex ATR-102 Master Tape.
You must be right, since my “new from scratch” file has just crashed on me on relaunch. When it’s loading up the master section plug-ins, it ends up crashing without notice. I’ll try your way and remove the preferences folder.

FWIW, you can use plugins but if you use the Master Section, be aware of the setting that automatically restores the master section on the next launch.

In my opinion this is an easy way to get into a crash situation because it may be trying to automatically load plugins at launch that cause a crash and then you get stuck. You can turn this off if it’s enabled.

I actually totally avoid the master section and all my plug-in usage is within the Audio Montage (Clip Effects, Track Effects, Montage Output Effects) because for many reasons I do not like the Master Section (aside from Playback Processing Effects).

In my view, the Master Section is an invitation for trouble compared to using the Inspector plugins within the Audio Montage.

I wish I knew precisely which Preference file to delete to only clear the Master Section for you but I don’t.

FWIW, I suspect Relab plugins as the cause here but that is just a guess.

Thanks for your input. I will try and investigate, and if I ever find something interesting, I will report here (and to the plug in manufacturer!)

The reason I suspect Relab is that it’s a newer plugin, smaller company, and probably have never tested their plugins in WaveLab.

They certainly do not list WaveLab as a supported host:

Amek eq and mastering compressor are fine with me, never had a problem with them. Justin is right pointing on Relab plug in and I would give an eye on that UAD too as I had them crashing in the past.
