Hi-Hat Volume

I’m writing a combo arrangement using Dorico’s drum-set. However, the hi-hat is never loud enough. I’ve tried using single lines and adding fff to the instrument, but that didn’t seem to make any difference. When I enter it into the staff it seems loud enough, but when it plays with other drums, I can hardly hear it. I’ve made just a short excerpt of what I want to do, starting with just the hi-hat, then adding a kick drum, and then a snare. What am I doing incorrectly? Thanks in advance for help with this delimma.

I can’t load the sounds of your project. In the project I just shared, in which you could hear the hi-hat, I use third party drum set VST instruments. These drum set VSTs usually allow you to customize each part of the drum set, usually including at least volume, pan, pitch and timbre. I can name a few VSTs if you are interested.

I tried to load your project again and it plays now. I guess I encountered some bugs while switching projects.

It loads Groove Agent SE on my computer. If you are using this VST, you may alter the volume of hi-hat as follows (follow the numbers).

Hi @JPayne, adding to the suggestion by @sunnych, here other two places where you can adjust the Hi-Hat volume in Groove Agent:

sunnych: my edit page does not look like yours. Where do I go to see what you posted?

Christian: I followed your directions and achieved exactly what I want. Thanks for the steps you included. Jim.
