So I’m in the piano part, I want to hide chord symbols when the piano is resting to help consolidate measure rests and save actual page prints… in this screenshot you’ll see hidden chord symbols (locally only) at letter A and a nice 28 bar multi rest. But I can’t get that to happen at letter D, why is that?
Letter D is also hidden only locally.
My only thought is that there must be something else in those two bars that is preventing bar consolidation. What happens if you actually delete those chords?
Can you attach a cut-down version of this project and we can investigate for you.
OK, (since this Is a copyrighted piece that I’m arranging for a specific band) I’ve deleted all the music after E. The consolidation problem is between D and E.
Just for grins I opened the piano part again (before deleting all the chords after E), with all notes gone leaving only the chords. I selected chords all the way to the end, made sure “Locall only” is shown in the Properties panel. Hid the chords in the piano part only - not score - and viola! Multi rest consolidating worked! Except for those few measures between D and E?!
So here you go @DanielMuzMurray … help me Obi-wan, you’re my only hope!
I can’t remember if this is working as designed or is a bug, but I’m almost certain this has something to do with the fact that you’ve removed the bottom staff in the first system, but haven’t (because there is music) in the system at D. I’m not home to check and can’t remember the exact wording, but if you set Layout Options / Vertical Spacing to not remove single staves from grand staff instruments, does it then work correctly?
@FredGUnn you are right!! In the Staff Visibility portion of Layout options if I uncheck “Allow empty estates of multi-stave instruments to be hidden” the consolidation works perfectly!
So since this piece only has a few bars at the very end where piano is only right hand I’ll just live with the grand staff throughout.
Thanks!
This might feel weird, but I also found a solution/workaround:
I suspected that since the section at rehearsal mark A worked fine, I opened the file, turned off multi-bar rests for piano for a moment and copied the first 6 empty bars of piano starting from rehearsal mark A in place of those 6 bars at the letter D which contains the chord symbols Bm6 F#7 Bm6. Then I turned multi-bar rests back on and it works.
I didn’t see anything on the signposts at letter D, which makes it more mysterious, but at least here is a fix.
Glad that works for you! I seem to recall this coming up before, but can’t remember if the explanation was that it was expected behavior or not
