I have a lot of pieces that need a bar number every 5th bar. I know that I can hide the first bar number when they show every bar, but there’s not an option to hide it with the “n” setting. I can hide the first number one at a time, but that’s very time consuming when you have several hundred pieces to do. I don’t understand why it’s not an option other than for every bar.
I don’t really understand the issue, if you want the bar numbers to be every 5th bar, then go to layout options, which is Ctrl + Shift + L, go to Bar Numbers category, and it shows “every n bars” and apply. It’s that simple.
You can save as default if you need this in a lot of projects.
Yes, I have it set up to show every 5 bars, but the problem is that it shows a number in bar 1, which I don’t want. There’s an option to “not show first bar number”, but only for when you have numbers for every bar. I have to manually hide the “First” bar number for every piece,
I wonder whether perhaps you have an explicit (and redundant) bar number change at the first bar of the flow? Try selecting the bar number and hitting Delete to remove it.
Ordinarily, Dorico doesn’t show a bar number on the first bar, unless two conditions are satisfied: bar numbers are shown on every bar, and the dedicated option to show bar numbers on the first bar if bar numbers are shown on every bar is also activated.
