Hide rests in unused bars, now I can't use write mode

Hi everyone. So As the title says, I’ve opted to hide the rest in unused bars as I think it looks a lot cleaner and simpler, and it’s what I see a lot of pros doing now-a-days. The problem is once I do this write mode (galley view) becomes unusable. The rests are also hidden in this view and it makes it so I cannot select any bars or input notes. Surely this is not supposed to work like this? How do I get the rests to hide in engrave/page view but not in write/galley view? Thanks.

P.S. I’m in Dorico 4 if they have fixed this in a later edition

you can always use the system track to select/delete/add bars.

you can always double click inside a bar to activate the caret.

Did not know this, thanks. This seems to make it useable at least, although I would prefer it retained the full functionality of when the rests are shown. In fact I would prefer if it just continued showing the rests in galley view and only applied to the “hide rests” option to the page layout. Is there any way to do that?

I don’t think so.
But it is very easy to switch this in Layout Options, when you are finished with music entry.
