How do I hide the first 8 bars of a vocal line when there’s only piano intro? I would have thought Dorico would do this by default, but it’s still showing the lines though there’s nothing in them.

I’m not sure if it is the default. For larger scores, it’s common to show all instruments on the first page. Maybe different for various templates.

If you have empty staves later on that you don’t want to hide,** then you could use Manual Staff Visibility instead: hide the vocal staves with one System Break, and Reset their appearance with another. (Tip: I add the Reset break first, just so I don’t accidentally lose anything.)
( ** I had to sing from something yesterday, where the Basses had no notes on the bottom system of a page, so the whole staff was hidden. Obviously, I started singing the Alto line by mistake…!)
And very useful too in large orchestral scores.
Much more practical than Dorico’s Staff visibility command. Ideally, to maximise control over the optimisation of a score, it would be useful to be able to select a specific empty staff within a system and have an “hide” button located, for example, in the left-hand panel in Engrave mode. This is to avoid having to switch back and forth between various dialogue boxes.
