Horizontal Adjustments for Slash Regions + Notes w/Lyrics

I am having trouble adjusting horizontal spacing on this line. I want to do two things:

  1. Shrink the “slash region” so that the / are closer together (in order to give mm.15-16 more room to breathe.)

  2. Adjust the horizontal spacing of m.15 to be “more even” - Like adding more space after the first ♩. (dotted crotchet) E, and shrink the space between the F+E ♪ (quavers) on the 3rd beat so that, say, the “-” in “weath-er” disappears.

(I have tried dragging around lots of things in Engrave mode, but to no avail. I am frustrated because in Sibelius, you could select any 2+ items and then just adjust the horizontal spacing between them with a keyboard shortcut.)

Any help is appreciated.
Thank you!

Others can help better on spacing issues.

A few questions:

  1. Is this a simple lead sheet (looks like it)?
  2. Are there any written notes hiding behind the slash region?
  3. Did you do any manual spacing adjustments?
  4. Would you upload another screenshot in Engrave Mode to show us how full the system is? Or perhaps the project file itself would be most helpful.

There is also this section of Engraving Options > Lyrics that might be worth trying to adjust:

P.S. — What’s happening rhythmically with the setting of “two I love” in the second verse?

Hi @b0berto, besides the other useful suggestions, you can easily shrink down the spacing of the slash region with a Note Spacing Change:

(sorry I didn’t know where to put “I love”…)
