How about this for a Plugin Manager

Hi. I apologize if this has been brought up before but I didn’t see any other posts about Steinberg trying this.

In the plugin manager the way Steinberg has tried to address things not going into the category they’re supposed to is to offer us a way to create another collection and then folders inside that collection.

While this does help it ends up being annoying for at least 2 reasons"
a) it takes more clicks to find that you’re looking for
b) if you don’t name your folder by vendor (which puts the onus on you knowing what name stands for what plugin when it’s sometimes not named clearly) you then have to create doubles of folders that already exist in the default collection ie duplicate filter, reverb, modulation etc etc.

Why not just make the default collection. folders and steinberg plugins undeletable and then allow us to drag and drop third party plugins into what ever folder we choose.
Let’s say that the plugin we choose to move was from the default Other folder and we moved it to the default Filter folder but later decide it’s better in the default Modulation folder. Easy peasy to just grab it and drag it from one to the other. Don’t like it there either? Delete it and it will repopulate in the default Other folder.

Want to create a folder within the default Collection? Easy peasy. Want to delete the folder you created and all the 3rd party plugins within it? Again easy because they just repopulate in the default Other folder.

Want to rename a plugin so it’s easier to find? Again easy peasy because you’re only renaming the text label and not the actual plugin. Want to go back to the default name? Right click on the plugin title and in the pop-up select default.

I’m not a programmer but these are just my suggestions that don’t seem like they would be a massive project to incorporate into the existing default collection.

Hi AniOakly,

I think that almost everything you wish for is already possible. If you want to modify the default plugin collection that Steinberg offers just copy it in the Plugin Manager (Studio/VST Plugin Manager) and go on from there. Although Steinberg plugins are not un-deletable - and I am not unhappy about it  - you can create whatever collection you imagine.

That would indeed be a very handy feature, especially the option to go back to the default name via dropdown menu. How about it shows all alias instances of that plugin including their folders?
There are dozens of feature requests for the option to rename plugins which you can support by giving it a vote, for example this one that dates back to 2015:

This feature request has been around forever…
