How can I assign midi controls to vst plugins in the monitors section of control room?

Hey everyone,
In my template, I use keyboard shortcuts to change plugin VSTs controls (like open/closing the plugin/bypasing the plugin etc…) without having to open the inserts section. This is achievable as far as I know by going to Studio Setup, generic remote, and creating a preset of MIDI controls that can be assigned to control different functions inside the daw. basically, to make this work, I use a third-party plugin to convert my keyboard shortcuts into MIDI information, which then triggers the generic Remote template. So far, everything works great. In the Generic Remote, I can find functions to assign controls to VSTs in the mixer tracks, the control room main section, the headphones section, and even the cues section. BUT, not with the monitors section in the control room.

In the control room, I use the monitors section to switch seamlessly between my real monitors during mixing to Validate the mix, and I place in that section compensation EQ plugins for each of my monitors. But when I go to the Generic Remote settings and set the device to VST Control Room and choose the channel or category, there is no subcategory related to the monitors section, meaning there is no way as far as I know to assign a CC control to the VST plugins in that section.

Everything else works fine, I can assign controls to VSTs in the main section of the control room, the headphones section, and the cues section, but not for the monitors section.

So, is it is possible to assign fixed cc controls to vst parameters located in the monitors section of the control room,

Thanks in advance.

I think in Cubase 14, the MIDI Remote can control Control Room Inserts.

Thanks for your answer, Nico. I went back to the MIDI Remote section to double-check if it’s possible to control VST parameters in the monitor section from the CR. Here’s what I found:

As you can see in the image, these are the only controllable functions available for the monitor section in the Control Room. , I dont see any option to control VST inserts (other than Bypass) in the monitor section, at least as far as I am aware. ( Feel free to correct me if I am wrong)

Try adding an insert in the Control Room and then open it’s UI and right click on one of the controls.

That should reveal an option to map a MIDI Remote.

Pretty interesting. The UI of my VST wasn’t directly editable by right-clicking to show those settings, but I was still able to achieve the same result by clicking the triangle near the QC icon and then opening the ‘Remote Control Editor.’ From there, by moving the knobs, they became MIDI mappable in the Remote Control, which solved almost all of the functionality I was aiming for. Thanks a lot btw for leading me toward that direction.

That said, there’s still a small issue remaining: I wasn’t able to find a way to MIDI map the ‘Open/Close Editor’ function (i.e., opening and closing the plugin editor window for plugins in The inserts of Monitor Section in Control Room). I think it might worked if the Monitor section appeared in the Remote Devices section of the Generic Remote in Studio Setup,as mentioned in my inital thread. But yeah no luck for that.

This MIDI Remote is quite an amazing beast, but it still has quirks and holes.

While I’ve given up trying to understand what the development strategy is, I do appreciate that it seems to still get continuous improvements - even when the Release Notes don’t mention anything.
