I have created a score with three piano parts. I would like to display the chord symbols in the score above each piano part for educational purposes.
I believe I set everything up correctly. Here’s how I did it:
Layout Options > Chord Symbols > Show chord symbols above specific player’s staves:
In Setup Players,
each piano player is set up as follows:
The result is this:
Even with “show for all instruments” checked, the chord symbols only appear at the top of the first piano part.
What am I missing here?
Lay-Out options- chord symbols - above specific players’ staves.
Now it is probably on : above top staff of system.
You have to select all 3 piano layouts
Good luck
That’s not it. As I pointed out in my original post, all three piano players are set to show chord symbols for rhythm section instruments (and piano is considered a rhythm section instrument). I even tried setting them to “show for all instruments”, and it made no difference. I also pointed out that in layout options, “Show chord symbols above specific player’s staves” is selected. I even attached snapshots of my settings. Did you actually read my post?
Can you upload the Dorico file, so we can take a look ?
Hi @Thomas_Gunther, thank you for the file.
The not appearing chord symbols on the other piano staves, is caused by the fact that you entered your Chord Symbols as Local Chord Symbols for Piano1 (if you select one, and press Enter, you will see that in the Popover the head icon is blue=local). Local Chord Symbols appear only on the staff/grand staff where you created them:
Here is how to transform the local Chord Symbols into global ones:
- select a chord symbol
- press Enter (in the appearing Popover, the head icon is blue, it means the chord is local, also signalised in the status bar in the lower part of the window)
- keep Option(Alt) pressed: the head icon will become grey again
- press Enter (while Alt(Option) is still pressed): the chord symbol will be rewritten as a global one, and will appear on the other staves. You can now release Alt(Option).
- press the right arrow key (the next chord will be selected) to move to the next chord symbol and repeat the process (from the second step)
