Q1. How can I make two tom-tom to a single-line staff but the notes are above and below the staff?
Q2.
Also, how to make the rimshot playback? Can I use the playback from snare drum? Thanks!
On the top of my head, use a kit (5-line-staff presentation) and modify it with the instrument editor so that the 5-line-staff has only one line. In the kit editor you can choose where each instrument appears. And in the percussion playing technique editor, you can add whatever technique you need (rimshot, rim, hit, thumb…) and their appearance (notehead) as well as the playback technique triggered.
Marc, could you please show it step by step… It is too advance for me… Thanks!
May I know where is the instrument editor for the number of staff line?
Do I need to create a new instrument? How about how to assign the playing technique sound? Thank you!!
Hi Vincent_Luk it is really worthwhile visiting the Dorico YouTube channel and watch the 4 part series on percussion kits. Here is the link Part 1 In this forum there are also many step by step instructions to set up a drum kit with different playing techniques for each instrument.
The only peculiarity you have is that you only want a single line staff for toms rather than the common 5 line staff. As Marc mentioned you can change the number of lines in instrument definition. So in setup press the three dots and then select Edit instrument definition. Next scroll down to Staves and Clefs and reduce the staff lines to one.
If you do not see a 5 line staff but a grid after you created your kit with the two toms, you have to change the presentation of the percussion instrument to 5-line staff (even if you changed it to only 1) in library>layout options>percussion
