I would pay to have some of mine done also
I canāt get SE3 to load on my WIN 11 PC. It says it is loading but hangs on the fonts files. Any suggestions ?
Yes, boot the computer in safe mode and try to install there. For me that worked.
I too have some old .arr and .all files from the 90s Iād like to look at. I used Steinberg from the old C64 days! Simply put if I buy a contemporary license for Cubase and download both the latest version and SE3 (to PC) can I still get an e-licence to make SE3 work before the deadline and hence convert these files to .cpr and then run them in the latest Cubase?
No. There is no way to get a new license on to elicenser any more.
That is grim
so the only option is to rely on a) someone selling me such a license or b) finding someone that offers the conversion as a service.
Hello Steven_Haus,
Iām not quite sure, but this is how I understood it:
Software that still runs under the old eLicensing can continue to be used as long as the eLicenser or the computer works.
So it is not the case that this software can no longer be used next year.
I have also installed Cubase 11 Pro at the same time and that should continue to run.
However, it is certain that this software will no longer be supported and there will be no replacement for lost licences.
And yes, you must have a valid Cubase licence to be able to use Cubase SE or SX.
But I think an old Cubase eLicence (e.g. Cubase 10, 11 or 12) is sufficient.
And now the crucial question:
Can you use Cubase SE/SX if you only have a current Steinberg licence for Cubase 14?
Then the old eLicensing would no longer play a role at all.
To be on the safe side, you may have to ask support. They will probably only be able to answer in the new year (:-o)
No. You must have a usb elicenser with a valid license to use them.
Thanks for your previous replies DVance & Grim. Iāll certainly talk to Steinberg in the New Year. Itād be cool if a second-hand market in elicenses arose, or if Steinberg themselves or a 3rd party ran a conversion service. All the best anyway with your music-making for 2025.
Like many others, I have been loyal to Steinberg for decades. Iād like to know how they justify not including back-compability into newer versions of Cubase. It is blatanly obviously a huge pain in the arse having to go back to some primitive version of Cubase from 25 years ago or more in order to convert files. iāve not tried it, and have little confidence that it will work. I have hundreds of projects that I cannot access due to this. What is the justification, and why am I still loyal to Steinberg when they are not loyal to me? Can you tell that Iām furious about this?! ![]()
I know Puzpig itās infuriating. I tried the latest Cubase for a trial month but as I couldnāt import my old stuff ⦠Whatās the point? Steve
And it would be easy for them just to build a small conversion utility.
Just choose a file (or a folder) where the āall and .arr files are, and bam! Now, we would have the new .pcr files that we can use in the new Cubase releases.
Yes, it would only be the .mid and .wav with no effects or addons⦠yet, it would be better than now!
They already have all the needed codes in SE.
I think there already are a few 3rd party guys doing stuff like that. For theā¦.percentage-wiseā¦few numbers of way-old projects still out there, I donāt envision sb allocating a few hours dev salary to coming up with a converter pgm. imo anyway.
