How can I put ca. in a tempo marking and still get a quarter note in the marking

Hello,

I am trying to put a tempo marking at the beginning of a transcription which says:

Mysterioso {quarterNote} = ca. 72

I’ve tried typing “6=ca. 72” and “q=ca. 72” but whenever the ca. is typed in the popover, the quarter note goes away and I get the letter or number. I’ve searched everywhere I can think of, but can’t seem to find an answer. How do I type a tempo marking into the popover with a “ca.” in it and STILL get the {quarterNote} image in the equation?

Thank you in advance!

Type it in as Mysterioso q=72, and then in the bottom Properties panel, tick the “Is approximate” checkbox.

If you prefer “ca.” instead of “c.”, you can either change that in the Properties panel (to change just this one tempo mark), or change the setting at Engraving Options > Tempo > Absolute Changes > Approximate tempo appearance to affect all approximate tempo marks in the project.

That’s perfect. Thank you. At some point, I’m going to convince myself to check the properties panel before I start searching online.

Good idea!

Dorico is remarkably consistent. If you can set a global option for something, there is likely to be a property that will enable you to override that option for a particular instance. If you find yourself overriding lots of properties, you should think about changing a global option!

If it hasn’t been mentioned elsewhere, I’d like to put in a feature request that we can do this in the popover.
