How do i delete preferences while still keeping as much as possible?

Crossfade is not working for me, and found it if i start cubase in safe mode with disabled preferences, it does work. So I need to delete my preferences to get crossfade to work again. But obviously I want to keep as much as possible and am afraid that I might loose settings.

What is the best way to go about this? Of course I can export keybinds. Anything else i can save?

Hi,

Could you try in the Cubase Safe Start Mode [Disable preferences], please?

This would disable the defaults.xml file, so you can try, if this is the faulty one. If yes, you can delete the file.

Cubase Preferences folders are:
Mac: ~/Library/Preferences/Cubase X
Win: %appData% \Steinberg\Cubase X_64

Where the X is the Cubase version (for example 13).

If you would rename this folder, Cubase would create a new one during the next start and quit. Then you can try to move some specific files over from the original (renamed) preferences folder to the new one. For example the Key Commands.xml file.

This is the most extensive article about the files in the preferences folder, I know of.

Yeah, that is what i did, so in that case i’ll try it with defaults.xml

Okay so i deleted defaults, but saved my preferences beforehand so could load them right back in. The only thing that i probably can’t get back is the ‘default’ color setup, which doesn’t really matter because i use a template which has a baked in color template.

Finally got crossfade back, thanks!!
