How do I fix this flute part? I have went in, double checked that everything was (properly) set to voice 1 up-stems. I’ve included a screenshot of my settings as well. I am unsure why the first D is an upstem (again there’s no forced stem direction), as well as why the tiny “1.” appears three times instead of just once.
It will (likely) be solved very quickly if you upload that portion of your project.
But, do you have any Manual Condensing Changes?
The Garden of Eden_Condensing Issue.dorico (1.4 MB)
I do not have any manual condensing changes. Also, I am unsure why the unison appearance is inconsistent on page 3/4.
I’m not having the Player Label issue that you are having. Here’s what I see when I open the project:
Dorico calculates condensing by phrases, and a phrase is considered from a rest to a rest.
In the second last bar, your Flutes need to be separated as they are playing different things. Because the start of that “phrase” goes back to bar 18 (with the rest), Dorico is condensing the music the same way from there onwards.
Put a Manual Condensing Change in the second last bar. Select the first note of that bar (a G), open the Condensing Change dialog, tick the Flutes on the left-hand side. This effectively tells Dorico to “start a new phrase here” and should fix the problem.
I’ve attached the version I have to see how it appears in your system:
Daniel, when I open that file, it appears like your screenshot. I did update my software from 5.3 to 5.6 to see if it’d possibly fix it (it didn’t). So interestingly, I created a dummy flute part and put the flute solo in fl. 3 in the original file. Even in the condensing, in my file, it appeared like it should. I tried copying the flute 1/2 part into 2/3 and deleting the original flute 1, but the issue reappears.
I’m sorry but I just followed your instructions and it still condensed as it should. I hope someone else can give you more advice.
I also opened your file, first flute entrance looks fine:
Difficult to see why it is not on your system. You do have a bracket and barline change on measure 1 though, what is it for? – try removing it and see what happens.
And the reason for the three ”1.” (two when I check the file) is that they are repeated on every system, sometimes more. For now one has to hide the extra ones manually. Jump bar, h c l enter.
Maybe you could try loading the project I sent back into your Library Manager and just transfer all the settings to your project. Does that change anything?
None of the settings are different
The bracketing change is to keep the definite pitch and indefinite pitch percussion in one bracket. And no, removing it does not fix the issue.
Well, as I wrote I don’t have the issue at all when I open your file… So it is really difficult to help you pinpoint the problem when it is not reproducable.
