How do I remove the blank space at the start of this score

I have tried setting the number of bars, I have entered rest and deleted them, but I am stuck beyond that.

I have now got it to work so I think the problem may now be clearer.

It looks like you want a pickup bar with one eighth note in 6/8. Is that correct?

Select the first eighth note, type Shift+M to invoke the Meters popover, type 6/8,1 , and hit Enter.

If you wind up with something like this:

Then select the very first rest, type Shift+B for the Bars popover, type -1, and hit Enter.
