i just updated to Dorico 5.1, and installed also Iconica Sketch.
However, when I go to apply a new playback template, I don’t see anything mentioning Iconica Sketch.
Sure I can choose Halion, and try to add all the articulations and instruments, but compared to a single click to use NotePerformer, this seems like having to build a house out of toothpicks. Am I missing something?
There are folders in Dorico called Playback Template Generators, which mention Iconica, how do I generate the playback templates from these Generators?
In Play > Playback Template you should see a number of playback templates whose names begin with Iconica Sketch. If you don’t, it means Dorico isn’t seeing the Iconica Sketch content on your system. Please do Help > Create Diagnostic Report and attach the resulting zip file here.
ok, here it is. Interestingly it said there’s anew library in town and do I want to change my default template to Iconica… but it doesn’t show as an available template. Maybe something odd about my install sequence. I didn’t have Halion Sonic installed when I installed Dorico 5.1 and Iconica Sketch. I reinstalled IS again afterwards but it made no difference. I don’t even know where to look on disk for the templates.
You need to install the Olympus Choir Micro content. All the Iconica Sketch templates also use this content, so without that being installed, Dorico won’t show them.
by the way, is there any way in the mixer to set the Fx send level for a track any other way than by the mouse? It’s really next to impossibly tedious to get 24 channels to go to any particular number when you have -ve infinity to +6.02db in about 12mm of screen space. Normal paradigm is ctrl-click to set default, or click to type a number.
At the moment, there’s no way to type numeric values into the Mixer, though we know that would be a useful improvement. You should be able to use the new space and stage templates to quickly set FX send values across multiple instruments.
If you have an active subscription or the Lifetime Unlock in-app purchase, you can install Iconica Sketch either via the General page of Preferences, or via the Reset Sounds dialog you will find in the application menu at the right-hand side of the toolbar.
It looks like almost none of the factory content is installed on your system. I advise running Steinberg Download Assistant, finding the Dorico Pro 5 category, then clicking Install All and waiting for all of the progress bars to turn green. Once everything is installed, run Dorico again, and hopefully you’ll see all of the expected playback templates. If not, please attach a fresh diagnostic report.
Once everything is working, you can delete the Steinberg folder in your Downloads folder that was created by Steinberg Download Assistant. Nothing is left in there that you need to keep after installation.
I see templates that begin with Iconic Sketch and have tried choosing them. But when I go to the Play window, Iconica Sketch is not one of the options in. the dropdown for Routing.
No, it won’t be. Iconica Sketch is a set of content played by HALion Sonic, just like all of the other content that has always been supplied with Dorico. There’s no dedicated plug-in for, say, Olympus Choir Micro, or HALion Symphonic Orchestra: everything is played by HALion Sonic. And you don’t need to manually choose sounds in Play mode in any case: apply one of the playback templates that includes Iconica Sketch, and Dorico will automatically choose the right sounds for you, just like it does with every set of content that is included with the software.
Alex, it appears that most or all of the HALion Sonic Selection content is not installed on your system. Run Steinberg Download Assistant and make sure that HALion Sonic Selection - Content
(recommended) is correctly installed.
