How do I use 'work number' instead of 'flow number' in my filename ingredients for exporting pdf?

I’m new to Dorico (recently over from Finale) and making use of Flows by working on a project that includes approx. 30 cues. These cues are chronologically numbered but there are some cues number with alphabetic additions. For example, 10A.

10A would be between 10 and 11 and so would end up being flow 11. Using the filename ingredients it would have to be flownumber - 11 and then all subsequent cues will not be numbered correctly.

I’m using ‘work number’ in my page templates so the number on the page is correct but it doesn’t correlate with the filename.

Is there a way I can use work number in my filename ingredients? Or is there a way to differently number flows?

Haven’t found an answer in searching the forums so making my first post.

Thanks!

Hi @mmattsmith22, a possible solution is following:

  1. use the numbering directly in the Flow Title:

  1. Be sure to uncheck Resolve markdown formatting, from the Project tab, in Project Infos (so the added dotted numbers will be not ignored):

  1. You need to delete then the flow number token from the Flow heading template (to avoid the “normal” numbering to appear):

  1. Like this you don’t need a work number token in your template (you can delete the token there)

Dorico file example:

flows personalized numbering.dorico (536.3 KB)

Result:

Christians solution is probably the easiest.

You could also exchange the token {@flowNumber@} to {@flowworknumber@} on your masterpage and use the field work number.

Greetings, Johannes

Thanks for this. I don’t seem to have a Resolve markdown formatting option in my Project info. So, whilst putting a number into the title it doesn’t seem to show it on the page.

Haven’t been able to spot it anywhere else.

Best,

Matt

It only appears when you are looking at the Project Information, not the Flow Information.

Maybe you just need to scroll down?

And yes as @Janus points out:

Thanks. Yes, I wasn’t on the Project tab.

Thanks for the help! Issue resolved.

@mmattsmith22
Did you resolved only the issue finding the Markdown check box, or did the explained workflow for you original (bigger) issue worked for you?

And by the way: welcome to the Forum!

The bigger issue is resolved, yes. Thanks.

If I’m being picky I’d still prefer a solution where ‘worknumber’ was available within the filename ingredients, only because I’m not a fan of having the number alongside the title aesthetically. A minor point, I know!

However, until that point, I am happy to have a version where filename and cue number correspond.

Thank you for your help and welcoming to the forum. I’ve already found a lot of useful help looking through many posts.

Hey,

I spoke too soon!

For some reason the numbers in the flow title get deleted in the filename of a pdf… I’ve tried both 01. and 01 before the tile and neither seem to transfer into the actual name. So it appears without any number at all now.

Haven’t worked out why this might happen…

Hi @mmattsmith22,

I tried and it works (with one extra step at the beginning):

  • copying the flow Titles into the Flow Names

  • and with the correct recipe…

  • …Dorico exports separate flows with the correct file names, and the PDF looks correctly, too:

If it doesn’t work for you, could you upload the Dorico file, to see what is happening?

Ok! I think I’m there. The flowname is the key. And actually I don’t need to have the number in the title as I still have the worknumber in my layout template. I wasn’t clocking that the ingredient in the pdf filename was the flowname and not the flowtitle.

Thank you again for your help and patience!

You are welcome @mmattsmith22.

Me too! (and, thanks to your issue, I learned something new, thanks!)

Here the related page from the excellent Manual, anyway, about the subtle connection between flow name and flow title, and especially this:
