How do you export a midi file so it sounds the same but in a different session?

How do you export a midi file so it will sound the same when its in another daw or session?

I used omnisphere for a specific sound.

If i export this track as mp3 or wav it will sound exactly the same as in the mix.

If i export it as midi and put it in a new session it will not sound the same at all.

It has to be midi because thats what the audio engineer requested. But its not going to sound the same.

Hi,

MIDI data are just information when are the keys pressed. No information about the sound. So if you need the sound, export as WAV.

You’d have to make sure the engineer has Omnisphere, and the same settings you are using within that, to get it to sound the same. As Martin indicated, MIDI is just data for attributes such as notes, controllers, etc. There is no sound in that data. The sound comes from whatever instrument the MIDI is driving.

Depending on why the engineer wants the MIDI data (e.g. maybe he wants to bolster the sound from some track within it with some other virtual instrument or a hardware instrument), you may need to provide both the MIDI and the audio if it is important to have the same sounds from your project.

If you export the file as a “MIDI loop” it will save the file along with the instrument and patch, however my guess is that it will probably only work in Cubase

Reading between the lines, the engineer probably wants the MIDI specifically because it can sound different. Did you ask why they wanted the MIDI?

I’d send them both the Track’s Audio & MIDI so everything is covered.
