I’m going in circles here between the shut down articles, the forum and other links regarding transferring an eLicense to the Steinberg Platform. It looks like getting N14 automatically placed THAT licesnse there along with my VST Connect Pro License. But my older versions of Nuendo and my Sample Libraries are still on the USB e-License.
Can anyone talk me through step by step on HOW to transfer the license from USB to my hard drive/cloud platform?
Nuendo 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 etc can NOT be used on anything other than the required dongle.
There’s no such thing as moving Nuendo 7 off the elicenser and on to the current 2025 license-type system.
As long as your dongle continues to work, you can use Nuendo 2,3,4,5,6 etc etc…they all (by the way) work great on my current Win11 Pro 24H2 systems alongside my Cubendo14 and Cubase 9 and Cubase 6.5.
Cubendo14 run off current licensing…cubase 9 and 6.5 get their license check from the inserted dongle.
When the dongle eventually breaks/is lost, that’s the end of the line for anything you have that’s dongle-based.
N14 was invented from ground-up to use the 2025-type license system. As was 13, 12…and I don’t remember if 11 was the first. Maybe it was 10…no…I think 11.
Thanks. This is pretty confusing. I’ve registered my USB eLicense with Steinberg, which includes my Eucon license and several VSL, East West Sample Libraries. Does this registration place them on the SB platform?
Registration of raw elicenser serial numbers WAS for the purpose of…say you bought 2 dongles, registered both dongle serials…and then the registered dongle holding your licenses was eaten by your dog.
The presence of the second registered dongle allowed for a quick license-move when owner would contact SB.
But the server turns off May 20…as does any activity for moving a license to a registered spare dongle.
I dunno what you mean re vsl and eastwest etc…my vsl stuff is of course ilok.
If you have any VSL stuff from back in their elicenser days, you might want to contact them regarding your options for moving your old vsl stuff to ilok versions…and when I say “move”…I mean “buy”. They may have discounts for you or whatever…however …at the moment…if your dongle works and your old vsl works…it’s your call about gambling with time.
Yeah, my E/W, Soundtoys and Slate Libraries show on my iLock. But my VSL library and Eucon license shows up on my USB eLicense. If I lose protection after the shutdown, how would I protect those licenses. Can they be backed up by transferring to my hard drive or in the cloud?
Only VSL can advise on what you can/can’t do with licenses they originally sold you for exclusive elicenser use.
Should I do a transfer to a newer USB drive for a, presumably, longer life extenstion?
I was going to do that but decided not to. No telling how/when/why/where a dongle will become inoperable. I do however, have my elicenser and ilok on a tiny hub…they themselves never get plugged/unplugged…only the hub.
I figured years ago, well that’ll reduce a bit of wear/tear.
The only time my dongle ever gets unplugged is when it has to be reseated in the PC for whatever reason or whenever I get a newer PC. That’s like maybe a dozen times over the past decade. I wish they’d have let us transfer to the hard drive and keep the dongle as a backup.
This video is where I got the info on how to do it
Very helpful
Took me 10 minutes
Cheers!
